Two examples:

First: The probate court removes an executor of a decedent's estate and appoints my partner and me to replace him as administrators with will annexed. At a hearing, the former executor puts me on the witness stand and asks me what our hourly rate is. I tell him. He says, "I could have found a lawyer to do it for less than that." "I know," I say. "You already did. That's why we're here today." The judge laughs.

Second: Last night, I was at the shooting range. (Imagine that.) Someone asks the room in general: "What's an LLC?" "A limited liability corporation," says the engineer. (Wrong. It's no kind of corporation, and all corporations limit shareholder liability.) "It's easy to do. Just file a form with the state. Costs $125," says the CPA. (True as far as it goes, which isn't far. Filing the paperwork with the Ohio Secretary of State is about five percent of what needs to be done.)

Comment on Johnson on rulers

Great referral! The war is us. If we fail, if we leave without success--we will have handed a much bigger victory than the attack on our homeland ever achieved. This will be because they (the enemy) will take over Iraq and literally change history with their ability to use our withdrawal and failure there as a springboard for all future anti-western plans and projects. It will literally become their base camp. We will be allowing them (the enemy) to move in and set up in a place perfectly situated geographically to harm all that you (and I) hold dear in this world.

2. Malarkey--it's called pandering and every candidate in my lifetime has sung the same song. One problem is the definition of "middle class". Here is one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle-class

I can assure you that the middle class he is defining is closer to the bottom than the top of that definition. History is a great teacher and history is now screaming do not believe them. Spencer--you cannot pay for all that stuff without taxing somebody--that somebody is YOU.

3. huh?

Comment on Palin and the debate

Very good point. I paraphrase Lou Holtz - It's not what they do to you, it's what you do with what they do to you.

Comment on Palin and the debate

Via Byron York:

“One of the reasons I feel so good for her, just as a human being,” said former Sen. Fred Thompson, “is I have never seen anybody undergo the ridicule, the slanders and the lies, and the blogosphere and what they’re doing, and breaking into her private e-mail, rumors and things about her, and now, most recently, belittling her, taking little snippets of interviews and laughing at her and satirizing her. Those people ought to be ashamed of themselves, if they’re capable of shame, because they’ve proven that what they were doing does not represent who she was and who she is. Thank goodness, just as she said, that this was an unfiltered event for an hour and a half. She could stand toe-to-toe with Joe Biden, who’s been around for all these many, many years, and basically take him to the woodshed.”

Comment on Think for yourself

Thanks for posting this.

Comment on Palin and the debate

I think you're right. Governor Palin has introduced a kitchen table conversational tone that, while perhaps not as sophisticated as the traditonal approach, strikes many of us as less contrived. I predict that we are going to see variations of this approach from candidates of both parties.
