HDL

Our health plan strongly encourages annual wellness checkups with our physician.  A year ago my cholesterol was a little high.  Last week I revisited my doctor and this week found out that my cholesterol is now "normal" BUT my HDL, or good cholesterol level dropped.

Plenty of recent research indicates it is just as important to raise the level of "good" cholesterol as it is to lower the level of bad cholesterol and total cholesterol (the Mayo Clinic explains it better that me).

The problem with cholesterol is it clogs your circulatory system and leads to heart disease and poor heart function.  Nobody wants that.

I am now on a mission.  There are some new drug therapies designed to raise HDL (good cholesterol) levels but I'm drug averse.  Doing a little research, I discovered fatty fishes like salmon along with fish oil, olive oil, nuts and red wine are all good natural ways to raise HDL levels.  I am up for this challenge and vow to work hard to improve my health.  Cheers.
