Thought work
I don't have billable hours but Execupundit's post on when he does his best "thought work" leads me to consider my top thinking situations. If I could bill, these would come at a premium:
1. Shower - Maybe it's the ionized water but never underestimate to power of a good shower on the brain.
2. Shining Shoes - Why would I ever pay someone to take away that thinking time. Clean, edge dress, buff, wax, buff, repeat.
3. Cleaning the Garage - "Therapy of the Mundane" kicks in as I sort tools, organize shoes and pitch unused items.
4. Yard work - whether I am mowing the yard, cleaning or raking, the air is just right for thinking.
5. Ironing - People who iron without solving all the world's problems while doing so are missing out.
6. Driving - Long trip alone? Have a couple of projects cued up to think through. XM Symphony Hall will help or maybe the 500 Greatest Rock Songs of All Time (according to me)? Traveling with a companion? No better time to work through a few puzzles.
7. Long Walk - Long walks create perspective on the world.
8. Lunch at Home - Peanut butter and jelly is perfect brain food.
The worst thinking situation for me is middle of the night; this is unproductive problem-expanding thinking where everything gets blow out of proportion by a half-asleep brain. Best to jot these thoughts down in order to trick the night brain into thinking they were worth while.
