End of the year

At work things get very busy at the end of the year since many of our clients run their contracts on a calendar year basis.  There is an incredible, uncompromisable urgency to the end of the year.  No wiggle room.  There are claims to pay so they are considered under one contract versus another, new contracts to prepare, changes to be made.  Everything must happen before the end of the year.

December 31 is very different from January 1.  True, they are a single day apart, mere hours from one another, but January 1 is the beginning and December 31 is the end.  Is it possible to be tired on December 31 and be renewed on January 1?  Sure.  We can tell ourselves that these are just two days but they are not.

I'm not a resolution guy by January 1 always has a new feel to it.  I understand why millions of people will wake up after the end of the year ready to face the new one with renewed vigor.

2011 feels tired.  It was a rough year.  There have been worse years but certainly many better.  I cleaned my desk at the end of the year and usually do.  It is part of closing out the old year, ending a period of time.  We don't get halftimes in life but be do get periods.  We get little breaks to catch our breath before jumping back into it feet first.  I don't like long breaks, can't stand long vacations but I like to shift gears at the end of the year before jumping into the new one.

Humans need stopping and starting points to chart progress.  The end of the year offers us a brief stopping point before getting back into the game.  Enjoy yours.
