"Mild weather, plentiful rainfall, ground not frozen, fish worms crawling around.
Was walking to the bluffs today with Ritzy. We walked the track to the gravel pit. Then over the chestnut grove hill to investigate a skunk hole of last year. A trap was in it. From there to Hawk Hollow where I ate wild grapes from bunches that had fallen on the ground - quite good. Here I noticed a lad following me. I tried to dodge him but failing this i joined him and his dogs - a police and an airedale. His name - Emmett Rhorig, lives on Hawk farm, 11 years old, likes to hunt and trap, very successful hunting season, caught three rabbits and a skunk. We walked through the bluff woods flushing quail. His mongrel airedale almost pointed quail and assumed some funny poses. The police dog looked the part of a timber wolf there in the woods, especially trotting under the large rocks. The lad observed a freshly felled beech. He knew the tree as a beech tree and was quite excited. We found plenty old comb and a few scraps of honey which we chewed with great satisfaction. He went with us to the RR and parted company at his home. I hope he enjoyed my company as much as I did his.
Last week the post office force attended H. Robinson's funeral.
Rowdy has been in the country two days. Came home hungry and in great good humor.
We are trying out radios for Emma's present."
