"Thanksgiving day was just a pleasant fall day - quite a contrast with the day a year ago. Jake kept Rowdy in the country until Thursday noon. So Ritz and I went into the bottoms where he chased out a rabbit and scared it around for me to shoot. This is the first fruit of his own hunting. I was sitting on the river bank loading my pipe when he scared another one from under the bank. I got a hurried shot and missed. Soon he jumped it again and again I missed a quick shot. Once more I saw it on the hill side then we lost it. We hunted the afternoon with Rowdy to no purpose. Gene was in Cleveland so just the three of us ate dinner here. Ella and I had a turkey supper with Brunskills in the evening. Mr. B had gotten his dressed turkey out of a freight wreck at a salvage price so we were thankful in a way that the train ran off the track.
Friday it snowed. The snow was still on the ground Saturday afternoon when the dogs and I went hunting. Game of any kind was not sighted. One crimson spot and fur showed where some bird had preyed on a rabbit. Two other sites were splattered with blood where hunters had twisted heads off near holes showing the use of ferrets and another spot of blood probably made by a trapped animal.
Early last night the dogs and I were over toward the park. They had fun with the bunnies and Rowdy treed a cat."
