Music for Roctober - #1 - The Beatles
Who else? There is The Beatles and then there are all the others. Honest. The best musical purchase I ever made was that of the Remastered Beatles releases - fourteen great albums to be played from start to finish with nary a hesitation (actually my boss and I each purchased seven).
But I digress. On with the countdown and our numero uno greatest rock song: "Hey Jude". Written by Paul McCartney either for young Julian Lennon as a song of comfort and encouragement during his mother and father's divorce or to get himself through a breakup. The song was written and recorded in 1968, was the longest single (at 7:11) to ever top the U.K. charts and stayed at the top of the U.S. charts longer than any other song by The Beatles - nine weeks. In three weeks, the song sold one million copies. The B-side of "Hey Jude" was "Revolution".
It is an intricate and beautiful song. . .na-na-na-na. . .
Let's build back up:
2. "Satisfaction" - The Rolling Stones - 1965
