Music for Roctober - #12 - Jimi Hendrix
Let's watch Jimi on Dick Cavett:
I enjoyed that interview.
What do I write about "Purple Haze"? I've never been a big fan of Hendrix but I can appreciate his talent. "Purple Haze" is either about sex or drugs and it is rock and roll. Supposedly the song was written in a London club in December, 1966. It was never a particularly big charter (#39 in the U.K. and #65 in the U.S.) but it is appealing nonetheless. I cite "Purple Haze" as an example of why great songs need to age. People say to me "why don't you have much new music on your greatest lists?" I reply that most greats need to age a bit. Over time, that big huge hit fades. Over time, that middling song becomes great. That is "Purple Haze".
