Music for Roctober - # 23 - The Clash

The last minute addition to The Clash's 1979 album, London Calling, wasn't even originally listed as a song on the release.  "Train in Vain" wasn't a hidden track, it just came in after the album art printing was complete.  The song was written in just over a day by Mick Jones and Joe Strummer to be a flexi-disk, (thin plastic 45-type release) insert in the British magazine New Musical Express.

"Train in Vain" hasn't done poorly for a quickly penned last minute piece; it has become one of punk group's signature songs, rising to #4 on the UK Charts and #23 on the Billboard Charts.
