Music for Roctober - #29 - AC/DC

Go ahead.  Snicker.  Look down your nose.  "AC/DC?  One of the thirty greatest rock songs?  C'mon."  Let me be clear:  When you talk about multi-generational appeal, there is Sinatra, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, AC/DC and the list continues from there.  When I was eleven, I listened to AC/DC.  My ten-year old likes AC/DC.  When I go into the nearby Duke Gas Station, more often than not the twenty-year-old behind the counter has AC/DC playing on his CD player.  AC/DC's Back in Black album is the second highest-selling album of all time with over 49 million copies sold.  You probably have it in your house; if not, you should.

But where Back in Black is the great AC/DC album, "Highway to Hell" is AC/DC's rock anthem.  The song is emblematic of the rock and roll lifestyle and was released as a single in the summer of 1979.  Penned by the late Bonn Scott, and brothers Angus and Malcolm Young it only made it to number 47 on the Billboard charts but deserves far better.  Scott died of alcohol asphyxiation six months after the song's release, proving out the lyrics and supposed message of the song - the hard life of rock and roll.

So volume up for AC/DC's "Highway to Hell":
