"At last our long hot spell in September is ended and yesterday we built our first fire for the season to come.  September has been very warm.

Have been fishing a little today with minnows.  No luck.  It looks like I'm going down to defeat again as nothing near ten pounds was caught.  Three pounds was probably the best I have done.  Still canning.  Such an abundance of everything."
