Execution. . .and adaptation
Tanmay Vora offers some very sound advice on the execution of a plan. I particularly like this piece of advice:
Plan early and often: In long-term change initiatives, constantly planning/re-planning is important. Milestones have to be moved and activities have to be re-prioritized. Review the plan at the end of every sprint and realign team’s focus.
I was talking to my mother the other evening and she was laughing and talking about my father's penchant for planning and organizing. As I read Tanmay's post I couldn't help but remember the number of times something didn't go according the "the plan". My father - who was also a superb plan adapter - would calmly ask "what are you going to do now?"
What is the saying? No battle plan survives initial contact with enemy.

"No battle plan survives initial contact with enemy." - that is a great way to put it Kurt!
Being a passionate planner myself, these lessons help me in staying nimble and agile - because plans always change and the quest to find the optimal route to the destination is always a lot of fun.
Thanks for this pointer to my post!
