"Just over another serious dry period.  Not as dry as last summer but the heat has been intense over long times.  The fruit crop is lovely - the best we have known for many years.  Blackberries were short on account of drought killing the canes last year.  However, I was picking several times and enjoyed it.  My wife has made pies.  We have canned 15 qts. and I have four gallons of wine in the making.  The last batch I picked was in Hooker's woods last Friday.

I have taken 10 1/2 days vacation - starting to work on the 8th last Saturday.  I spent most of my time working about the house and fishing.  Papered the sleeping porch.  Thursday and Friday we were at Hookers and I caught one cat fish.  Fished mostly for bass with fair success, catching several small ones and four that weighed from a pound to two pounds."
