July 19, 1931

Editor's Note: D.C. has been writing sparsely in the summer of 1931; so sparsely that I have been forgetting to check his journal (I try not to read ahead). I missed his July 19 entry:
"If there was ever a bum fishing season it is this one. I have been fishing a number of times and never a bite. Just came in from the river. Fished with night crawlers and cheese. No good. My river here has changed its bed a little, very low and the water looks impure. The bottom looks black when stirred up and must be filthy. Our pure green moss of this time of year is not with us much. We have gone through two or three weeks of dry weather - a threat to repeat last year. But yesterday and the day before gave us a soaking rain.
My garden is good excepting early cabbage. Everyone has complained of the yellows. My late cabbage planted where cabbage had not been planted before is doing nicely. Tomatoes never looked nicer and soon will have some ripe ones."
