The Reagan I knew
"Amidst all the sudden veneration for Reagan from today's
left as a man of moderation (in contrast, but of course, to the
wicked conservatives of today) those with longer memories recall
vividly that liberals of the day hated Ronald Reagan's guts."
The American Spectator on Reagan.
I was in college during the Reagan presidency. He was dismissed by all but one of my professors as a dunce. Walks past the Student Union invariably included an assault on Reagan. Reagan was going to lead us to nuclear war (remember the nuclear winter?), Reagan was treating the Nicaraguan government unfairly. Reagan invaded Grenada illegally. Reagan hated the poor. Reagan was going to bankrupt the United States. I loved every minute of it.
