Anderson Layman's Blog charts part of the problem.

I'll take a stab at what it means:  We are deep into the process of shifting our economy from more of a market-based economy to more of a political economy.  Those who manage the economy - with regulation rather than product - gain in power and wealth.  It is a bad thing.

I quote from economist Richard McKenzie:  "Nothing is more economically dangerous than the combination of big government and big business."
