The other Christmas movies

No Thanksgiving weekend in our house would be complete without the traditional viewing of our first Christmas movie of the season:

Second season favorite is Die Hard II (Die Hard III and IV are set over the 4th of July).

Some other non-traditional Christmas movies enjoyed here include:

Diner - Coming of age movie set during a 1960s Christmas break for some college students who would go on to become huge stars.  Barry Levinson chose wisely.

The Dead Zone - Christmas Stephen King style.

The Shining - It does take place over the winter.  Christmas is in there somewhere.

Ghost Story - Why doesn't anyone like this movie?  John Houseman, Fred Astaire, Melvyn Douglas, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.  The book was fabulous.

Eastern Promises - Christmas.  London.  Russians.  What's not to like?

Others?

I loved the book "Ghost Story" and, given the cast, looked forward to the film, but felt the movie missed the main point of the book, which was evil. There were some truly scary scenes in the book that never quite made it to the movie.

How about The Odessa File (1974) with

Jon Voight and Maximilian Schell? I'm pretty sure the opening scene included snow and Christmas shopping in Germany.

I agree, Michael.  I still enjoy the movie if only for the storyteller scene.

Steve - Excellent addition.  And you reminded me of Lethal Weapon.   Another of the other Christmas movies.
