25 blogs guaranteed to make you smarter
Blogs get a bad rap. They provide an incredibly rich source of high quality content. And or your consideration, here is CO's sampling of twenty-five to make you smarter (all published by people with day jobs):
Execupundit - generated most days. A combination of original writing on management/leadership and links to a wide variety business and culture articles. An important daily read.
Nicholas Bate - Someone asked me (and not incredulously) why I like this site so much. I responded that I enjoyed the succinct but valuable postings and lists and drawings. But I then remembered what first drew me to Bate's site on the Business of Life + Life of Business: It is the attitude of the site. So refreshing, so positive, so forward-looking. Read it first thing every morning and you'll be a better (and smarter) person.
Eclecticity - If I listed the variety of subjects covered on the site, you wouldn't believe me. Just visit regularly and enjoy.
The Word on Employment Law - Yep, he's a real attorney (but not yours) writing well on a variety of employment-related legal and regulatory issues.
Three Star Leadership Blog - Selected readings and lessons on business and leadership.
First Trust Blog - Economist Brian Wesbury (who has a very good track record on economic prognostication) on things economic. Read and learn.
No Left Turns - Conservative thoughts from Peter Schramm, Director of Ashland University's Ashbrook Center, and some very smart writers, professors and Ashbrook alums.
Phi Beta Cons - My kids are populating college campuses so National Review's take on higher education is a welcome site.
View From the Ledge - Jeff's introduction to me was a spelling correction. His writing on writing and books and words will leave you with a better sense of the poetry that good prose can be.
The Hammock Papers - Published by teacher and childhood buddy, Rob. He introduced me to Mozart and Jim Harrison and Ezekiel muffins. Try it, you'll like it.
Patrick Guanciale - He's sold a ton of real estate. One of the smartest salesmen I've ever known. Pay attention.
Anderson Layman's Blog - Steve is a commercial real estate man and his thoughts are worth reading.
QAspire Blog - A high quality blog of original writing on . . .quality. And leadership.
Ka-Ching! - I love this site. Guaranteed to help you keep your perspective on life.
Self Vs. Self - Artist Hazel Dooney's site features incredibly honest writing on the work of creating. I don't link to it enough but read it regularly.
Gapingvoid - Another creation site maintained by artist and writer Hugh MacLeod. Great art (subscribe to the newsletter) and writing.
Presenting is Simple (It's just not easy) - A fabulous site on presenting from Rowan Manahan, who runs a Dublin-based consulting and career management firm. His other site is Fortify Your Oasis.
Arts & Letters Daily - READ THIS SITE. They scour the world for well-written, thought-provoking articles and aggregate them for you and me.
