Three years of CO

I missed my three year marker last week.  I'm correcting that injustice this evening with a little celebration.  A glass of Otter Creek and a few moments of reflection on what this is it all about.

I've mentioned before that people who know me and discover the site will ask why?  Why do you blog?  Why post thoughts on the Internet rather than in a notebook or a filing cabinet?  Exhibitionism?  A need to show people something?

Let me try to explain.  In the three years that I have posted thoughts on Cultural Offering, I have "met" some amazing people that I would have never met had I not created this web site and posted thoughts and quotations and snippets and images.  Let's see, there is Michael Wade, my blogging mentor who I've never spoken to or met face-to-face.  The man is a management genius and one hell of a nice guy (be sure to buy Michael's new book - you will thank me after reading it).  How about Nicholas Bate?  Author, consultant, speaker and trainer whose books I have discovered and who has been incredibly kind to someone who he has never met.  How about labor attorney, John Phillips?  Or Doug FineJim Stroup or Wally Bock or Tanmay Vora? I would stack this slate of writers up against most of the best-selling business authors any day of the week.  And I could go on (Scott, Jeff, Jonathon, . . .but I won't.  You get the point.

I've "met" every one of these people through their words.  And they've met me through mine.  All through the amazing process of blogging.  Three years.

Sure, I've published some goofy stuff.  Big deal.  It eventually scrolls down into history.  That is the deal that is blogging.  You take a shot at it.  Put some thoughts down.  Words to sentences to paragraphs, all to hone your skills - writing, reading, thinking.  Sometimes you hit and sometimes you miss.  But over time there are more hits than misses.  It has been a complete blast.

Thanks for continuing to stop by and cheers.

Hi Kurt - Congratulations for completing 3 years. I completed 4 years in April 2010 and what an amazing journey it has been to express, get validation, make friends, exchange thoughts and take the subject forward. Great learning along the way.

Many thanks for the mention there, and I truly value the relationships I have built with such amazing folks on the blogosphere.

    Cheers!

Congratulations on your anniversary and also for making a very cogent argument for what we do. I echo your sentiments and I know my good friend Doug will be proud for you to have mentioned his name. Keep up the great work and as the say in Rome...Oremus Pro Invicem.

Thank you for your kind words. I think of many blogs as online magazines. Yours deserves a lifetime subscription.

    Simply outstanding.

    Kurt -

When I think about when I first started my own blog, you were one of the first that was a daily read.  Most likely because I started off steeped in politics - so you were both an instigator and an inspiration. Still are.

But I've veered away from politics - and yet I still come here daily. I've enjoyed your own writing as well as the leads you've provided. And even though we still sit on opposite sides of the aisle, you've given me a bit more insight to replace the prejudice.

Thanks for your encouragement - and the honor of being on your immediate list.

    - Jeff

Jeff - The feeling is mutual.  I am quite proud of my site readers.  There is a fairly diverse range of opinions BUT you are my favorite liberal. . .if I may so describe you.

      Thanks,

      Kurt

Congratulations on 3 years of excellence. I understand and agree completely with your description of the uniqueness of this experience, and the peculiarly warm relationships it leads to.

I look forward to many more years of your evocative writing and provocative thinking on organizations - from business-oriented to political - and the seas they swim in.

    Thanks!
