In defense of Sarah Palin

Norman Podhoretz in The Wall Street Journal:

"It's hard to imagine now, but 31 years ago, when I first announced that I was supporting Reagan in his bid for the 1980 Republican presidential nomination, I was routinely asked by friends on the right how I could possibly associate myself with this 'airhead,' this B movie star, who was not only stupid but incompetent. They readily acknowledged that his political views were on the whole close to ours, but the embarrassing primitivism with which he expressed them only served, they said, to undermine their credibility. In any case, his base was so narrow that he had no chance of rescuing us from the disastrous administration of Jimmy Carter."

Palin's problem is that she actually knows how to do things. It fits in with your craftsman ideals that you spoke of.

She knows how to fish, hunt, and survive in general. She also understands others that do the same. It's downright frightening to elitists. They want you to think that there is no way that a commoner can do what they do and they may be right! I'm tired of what they do anyhow.

I've seen a common thread amount the elite Ivy League types in both parties and I'm not impressed. I've scratched my head for ages trying to see what they know that the rest of us don't. The only conclusion I've come to is that they know how to dance around the truth. People who rely on skills know that dancing around the truth will just get you fired.

I want a person that switched community colleges running things. I want someone who has a kid in the service in an unprotected job as an enlisted person. I want a real person, flaws and all.

      Jeff Cooper would agree:

"Well, we know what motivates the hoplophobe. He simply envies the man who can cope where he, the hoplophobe, cannot.  A skilled, armed man lives on a plane of security and contentment different from that of others. This is not egalitarian! The man who cannot cut it, envies, fears and sometimes hates the man who can. "

I remember the media and others trying to make a fool of Palin for saying see could see Russia from her back porch. The reality is that they are the fools.

I had the odd experience of going through basic training with about 1/2 of my platoon being Eskimos. They were the first people that I heard say that they could see Russia from their backyard. They said nearly every Eskimo joined the National Guard because the pay was significant when you're living out of an igloo and they knew that they were this nation's first line of defense during the Cold War. They understood the same thing Palin understood and it was a BIG deal to the people that live there. They understand what it's like to live in fear of another country and that was all that she was trying to say.

It really shows the left's character when they attack her. They do not attack her on her political views, they try to tear down her intellectual clout. It is the equivalent of the child that has lost an argument and has nothing to say, so they reply with, "You're stupid!".

Ex-Gov. Palin though, it seems to E. has completely jumped the shark when she signed up for her reality show.

Since I heard that was coming, I saw Palin behind closed doors with a typical PR exec advising her on how to max-capitalize on her 30 minutes of fame:

    1) Book deal
    2) Oprah
    3) Fox News Pundit
    4) Red meat speeches (well compensated)
    ...
    25) Reality TV show.

    Good for her, I guess.

She can sure do stuff alright.
