"Delightful early March days with some freezing at night, bright sunshine and a little wind. It is a marvel to see such a change in so short a time from the ice bound winter. During the flood the ice skinned the bushes and trees that were in their path 30 feet. This will make a ragged shoreline this summer.
Paid Mc. $30.00 for the seed Sunday. Was at the farm Wednesday evening and things look more hopeful although some of the ground is badly skinned. Some of the sand has been washed off and this will probably help some. The dam benefits on our house is about $450; on farm $450. They say the assessment will be about 48% of this and I have 30 years to pay it in."

D.C. Richard's Journal

I really do enjoy reading D.C.'s entries...
You should try Verlyn Klinkeborg's The Rural Life. He also has a periodic essay in the NY Times.
