Transparency (II)

Hot Air reminds us of President Obama's promise that the health care reform process would be played out on C-SPAN.  Similarly, House Speaker Pelosi vowed unprecedented transparency mere hours before claiming that the health care team was "very close" to a melded bill on health care reform.  So much for transparency.

I work in this industry.  No one knows what a final bill will look like.  This process has been to transparency what the Labrea Tar Pits are to a mountain spring lake.  Each iteration of the legislation carries with it new deals, trades, promises and regulations that we try to sort through and understand.  Much of it is bad policy, born of bad information and created in the dark.

The goal appears to be to deny opponents any details to shoot down.  I understand that but we operate in what is generally thought of as an open republic.

They will have a bill.  But they cannot claim transparency however much the repeat the term.

Update: C-SPAN CEO Brian Lamb has asked House and Senate leaders for access to negotiations (crickets chirping).
