"December is ushered in fittingly with a snow storm - two inches.  The first of any consequence for the season.  The dogs and I were walking in the Foster bottoms this morning, skirting the bank to the "Dead Man's Hole", then following the river's edge home.  A walk we so often take.  This afternoon we went to the farm.  We parked the car at the bridge - the dogs and I - at the bridge.  Cutting across the Dawson cottage, the dogs struck a trail, swam crooked run at its mouth thence down river toward Maxwell's.  They barked holed.  I went to them.  Finally I got them away and Rowdy turned back, Ritz following.  I trudged clear to Maxwell's barn where they had a cat treed.  Cats are tops so far as game is concerned for them.  After a long walk through a perfect snow blanket we came home.  The dogs found two rabbits but very little other life.  A lone dove is making its home in the corn field.

Ella is recovering from a severe cold.  I helped her with a two week's washing this Sunday morning.

Mary Ellen was over today, amusing us with her baby ways.  She is much interested in climbing the stairs and does it quite well.  She is very fond of a toy sweeper but afraid of the big one.  She thinks it will "bing" (hurt) her.  She was a picture the other evening when she came into the kitchen where I was eating cake.  She said "Daddow pees", holding up the little mouth for me to give a tiny piece of the cake frosting.

Thanksgiving - Henry, Cash and I were hunting.  Saw one rabbit in a tramp of several miles.

Saturday I was at the farm, seeing three rabbits - shooting at one twice and missing.  Rowdy still does fair work but Ritz spoils the shooting by chasing the rabbit away that Rowdy brings around."
