Some risks are worth taking
The Wall Street Journal reports that physicians' neckties are a flu risk. In fact, some hospitals are taking steps not only to ban ties, but to put physicians in a worse position of considering the mythical "short-sleeved dress shirt":
"One such client is Wilson Memorial Hospital, north of Dayton, Ohio. Theinstitution's infection-control committee recently advised physiciansto keep their arms bare and scrubbed from the elbows down, and theirties tucked away. As a result, "a lot of our doctors have gone towearing polo shirts," says Melody Eppley, director of hospital'spharmacies and a member of the infection-control committee."
