Still in the wilderness
The constant conservative navel-gazing will keep us wandering around in the wilderness for a time, I fear. Taxmanblog points to more of it here. I won't speak for anyone but myself but the factions on the American right are all so busy trying the claim the intellectual mantle that they have forgotten that the commonality of their ideas rather than their rank were what propelled the movement in previous years.
As a member of the rank and file I sit quite comfortably among my libertarian, neo-con, paleo-con and plain conservative brethren. I don't sit around worrying about the religious right's position in the movement. All of these factions are decent folks who share many views while differing on so many others. Some of my greatest arguments are with conservative friends. It's refreshing to hash out some of our differences but I spend little time hand-wringing over those subtleties - and they are just that.
I don't share the concern over pecking order. And as long as that is the substance of great debate we will continue to wander.
Meanwhile, Jonah Goldberg has the right idea for the right: Let's adopt an AC/DC song as our anthem and move on. My vote is for "Stiff Upper Lip" (volume up):

Unfortunately, as soon as a conservative used one of the songs someone from the group would go public demanding we cease and desist citing not giving permission to use their songs.

You may be right, but my gut tells me that the boys from AC/DC are agreeable lads. I'm sticking with "Stiff Upper Lip" until I receive my letter from Angus Young OR his attorney.
