"Sat. afternoon and Sunday, fishing at the farm.  Just two small 'cats' and a sucker.  Something is wrong with fishing in those waters.  Summer cottages have lost their enthusiasm - probably on account of the flood and mosquito's.  Three cottages bordering my place have not be occupied this summer.  The wheat ground is ready to plant.  Expect to put in about 12 acres.  Alfalfa is coming along nicely except about three acres in the draws where practically everything was drowned out.  Used and spading fork in moving some of the growing water soaked mud laden wheat sheaves.  It's a man's job to handle them.  The dogs seem to be able to find but three or four groundhogs where there were dozens before.  It was heartening to flush a flock of quail - the first since the flood."
