"The river raised until today about one or two o'clock.  It was up to the farm at 5 o'clock and it has fallen a half foot.  The farm was just a swift running river with the exception of about ten acres on either side.  At least 12 acres of corn entirely covered.  Wheat partly under, maybe a total loss.  Melon patch under 8 feet of water.  10 acres of corn and one of alfalfa is all that escaped the water.  May be just a little of the wheat land was above it.  I'll find out tomorrow.

And that pickle patch - well, never count your pickles until they are pickled.  I parked the car at the water's edge about 20 feet from the highway entrance.  Then I picked a pint of raspberries.  They were good at supper time.  Ella is home from Cadiz tonight."
