"Still wet and cool. Garden coming nicely but late. Have had trouble with seed germination. This is one reason that early planting has not been much of a success.
Alfalfa ready to cut. One lot containing mixed hay - a good part sweet clover looks like a hard proposition to cure. I don't want to stack the hay but will have to if I can't sell it. Bailey certainly has his hands full the next few days with 22 acres of corn and 20 acres of alfalfa and 10 acres of wheat to cut.
I planted potatoes today. Melons are up nicely. I take off shoes and work in the mellow sandy soil in bare feet that love their freedom.
Set a trout line with 25 hooks baited with liver Saturday evening but did not catch a thing when I checked it this morning.
This farming is giving me something different to think about and might develop to a stock proposition or maybe not. Anyway I'm not taking it serious enough to worry much about it.
Have three days vacation. Expect to fish and make hay the coming three days."
