The critical one-third

If you watch the expression of kids who just struck out, you'll find that they fall into these categories:

Shock - The open-mouthed look down to the third base coach.

Disbelief - Characterized by the head shake as they look at the ground and drag the bat to the dugout.

Still confident - Jaw set.  "That was outside."

Broken - Charlie Brown.

Professional - Head held high on the long walk to the dugout.

I worry about none of these except Charlie Brown who has lost all hope.  They need success quick or you have a problem.  The goal is to have a dugout full of Professionals.

Coaching Season has some great reminders for the dejected batter. . .or salesperson, or employee here.

My favorite:

"No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games.  No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games.  It's the other third that makes the difference."
