"This is my half day off.  This morning I was on duty from 7 to 10:15.  Came home and cleaned our bedroom wallpaper.

At 1:30 took dogs up to the farm.  There I gathered driftwood off the wheat field and sowed sweet clover - alfalfa mixture in washed depresssion, raking it in with a 3-tined hoe.

Ritz was gone for some time but finally came to me pawing wildly at his mouth.  He asked me to help him as only a distressed animal can in their trustful way.  I opened his mouth and loosened a stick that had lodged across his palate between his teeth.  In his way, he thanked me gratefully too.

Rather a heavy freeze last night.  Bright and cool today."
