Things that make me feel better

There are times when things just don't feel right; other times when things feel fine or even great.  Certain activities can provide an extra boost no matter the starting point:

1.   Shining my shoes - nothing like a high gloss and edge dressing.
2.   Getting a haircut - the more hair you lose, the more important regular haircuts become.
3.   Putting on a crisp, starched shirt - great feeling.
4.   Cleaning my desk - I've woken from a dead sleep at 3:00 a.m., gotten dressed, driven the seven minutes to work, cleaned my desk, come home and felt a hell of a lot better.
5.   Reading Aristotle - The Rhetoric and Nichomachean Ethics work best.
6.   Having lunch and rousing discussion with a friend - Grounding in the purest sense.
7.   Talking with any of my children about anything.
8.   Listening to Bach's Art of Fugue - Hell, humming the first Contrapunctus can bring you out of any funk.
9.   Ironing a pair of pants.
10. Sorting socks - a two-hour task (at least) that seems to create the proper disconnect.
11. Mowing the yard - look behind you and something is accomplished.
12. Chopping wood - what a sound.  That crack is gratifying.
