Quotation for a Sunday in August - Mozart

                                                                                                                                            Vienna, August 22, 1781
                                                                                                                                            Letter to father

"I cannot tell you anything about the address of my new living quarters, because I don't have any yet; but I am negotiating with two lodgings about the rent, and I'm sure I'll take one of the two because I can't stay here any longer; I need to move by next month.  It looks as if Herr von Auerhammer wrote to you - and told you that I had a room already!  It's true, I really had found one, but what a place it was! fit for rats and mice but not for humans.  Even at midday, 12 noon, you couldn't see the stairs without a lantern, the room itself was like a closet; to get to it you had to go through the kitchen, and in the door of the room there was a tiny window; they assured me they would put up a little curtain again, otherwise they couldn't see a thing in the kitchen or in the next room.  Frau Auerhammer called the place a Rat's Nest; in one word it was frightful.  What a Splendid apartment it would have made for someone like me who has all sorts of distinguished people visiting him."
