The 10 Greatest Rock Albums

If you could have just 10.  And they had to be the best albums. . .Start at the beginning and play 'till the end.  These would be my choices:

Abbey Road - The Beatles - (1969) The last album recorded by The Beatles.  Here Comes the Sun, Come Together, I Want You (She's So Heavy), She Came in Through the Bathroom Window, Something, Golden Slumbers. . .do I need to continue?

Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen - (1975) Written as an album.  The best that the states have to offer.

Hotel California - The Eagles - (1976) Tight "He was brutally handsome and she was terminally pretty."

Who's Next
- The Who - (1971) Pete Townshend writes a "rock opera," has a breakdown and we get a great album.

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd - (1973) Say what you will about the inspiration but this album is the consummate rock album written about common daily topics.  If you are a fan of rock music, you will know most of the songs.

Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin - (1971) Heavy metal's roots were firmly established with Led Zeppelin IV.  Who would have thought that this album would produce a Cadillac commercial soundtrack?

Some Girls - The Rolling Stones - (1978) The Stones are more of a singles band but this album deserves to be owned.

Rubber Soul - The Beatles - (1965) Wow.

Back in Black - AC/DC - (1980) When AC/DC lead singer, Bon Scott, died of an alcohol overdose, the band roared back with a funeral album that has survived several generations of rockers.  Heck, I remember bringing the album home and my grandma tapping her toes to the tunes.

Damn the Torpedoes - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - (1979) Bankruptcy and Tom Petty don't seem to go together but this is the album that pulled Petty out of financial ruin.

Update - Execupundit weighs in with a few for consideration.

Eclecticity prepares to prepare his own list.

Awesome list. These things are very hard to argue. Everyone likes what they like for their own reasons. I will say that I would put 4 of your 10 on my Top 10 list. It will be tough to finally settle on 10, but you had the balls to do it. Congrats!!!!

This is gonna take some thought. "Rock" covers "Rock/Pop" or would you have another opportunity to declare 10 "Pop" albums, like say for instance, James Taylor's Sweet Baby James? This info can help me in coming up with my deserted island 10 albums.

Clear as mud. In any case, I'm referring to YOUR list on my blog. Cordially, E.

I would kick both Beatles albums and add Rush's 2112 and Eric Clapton's Slowhand

Slowhand was a serious consideration.  But if you play an album like Abbey Road straight through you have to admire the art and craftsmanship.  Thanks.

Pinball Wizard made it.  As for Led Zeppelin, II is well represented with four songs.  III being better than IV is quite a stretch for me.  But that is why we make these lists.
