Now that I understand the rules. . .

I was tagged recently by Execupundit and committed a faux pas without realizing what I was doing. I'm new to all this stuff and can be slow on the uptake. Then I read this post and got it.
So, page 123 of the nearest book and the next three sentences:
"Certainty of a given income can, however, not be given to all if any freedom in the choice of one's occupation is to be allowed. And if it is provided for some, it becomes a privilege at the expense of others whose security is thereby necessarily diminished. That security of an invariable income can be provided for all only by the abolition of all freedom in the choice of one's employment is easily shown."
The book is The Road to Serfdom by F.A. Hayek, first published in 1944.
Tagging:
John Phillips
BeldarBlog
David (I'll post here)
Arts Journal
and Carpe Diem.
And never being one to leave well enough alone, a modification related to music for the following:
John Phillips
Execupundit
Fortify Your Oasis
Nicholas Bate
and David.
The rules:
1. Select "Shuffle Songs" on the iPod and name the first song up - Jackson Browne, Running on Empty.
2. Select "Music," then "Songs" on the iPod and name the first song on the list - Genesis, Abacab.
3. Select "Music," then "Playlists," then "Top 25 Most Played" and name the first three songs on the list - Mark Wills, 19 Something, Gary Allen, Songs About Rain, Glass, Songs and Poems for Solo Cello I.
Then tag five others. Easy. No iPod? (first, go get one), jot down the five songs you next hear after being tagged. I'm watching.

There’s only one book on my desk at the moment. At page 123, sixth, seventh, and eighth sentences:
“But despite his aversion to money and conspicuous consumption, Chris’s political leanings could not be described as liberal. Indeed, he delighted in ridiculing the policies of the Democratic Party and was a vocal admirer of Ronald Reagan. At Emory he went so far as to co-found a College Republican Club.”
That’s from Into the Wild by John Krakauer, First Anchor Books edition, February 1997, copyright 1996. (Thanks, Elizabeth.)
I’m the only one in the family who doesn’t own an IPod. I have two CDs on my desk, gifts from my eldest son, Michael: “The Very Best of Emmylou Harris: Heartaches & Highways” and two Graham Parson LPs on one disk: “GP” and “Grievous Angel.” Emmylou sings backup, of course.
Since I don’t blog, maybe I shouldn’t tag anyone. Here are the blogs I read most often, in no particular order (excepting Cultural Offering and Beldar, since he’s already mentioned):
