For profit or practice?

A friend of mine has a father who ran a small business.  Everytime someone would challenge his price with that of new competitor he would calmly explain, "you see I do this for money, I don't need to do it for the practice anymore."  A man who knows the value of his product.

I thought of that comment when I read about Skybus shutting down

Reminds me of a story told to me by a former mentor who used to work in a bindery owned by his father.
A customer of many years called for a price. The father said "my price is still the same it's been for years - $10/thousand." The client says "well I found a guy who can do it for $3/thousand". The father says "I can't do it at that price, so give it to the other guy." Which the customer did.
Two years later the now ex-customer returns. "I'd like to give this job back to you but I want you to do it at $3/thousand". The father says, "I already told you I can't do it at that price - just keep giving it to the other guy". And the ex-customer says, "I can't - he went out of business."
    'Nuff said.
