Songs and Poems

Philip Glass's music has never done anything for me. I don't doubt his talent. I simply can't connect with his music. So when I read Justin Davidson's post on "Songs and Poems," at The Rest is Noise, I understood his similar sentiments and hoped that it would follow that I might like Songs and Poems as well. I downloaded the album from iTunes (although it is a buck cheaper at Amazon).
Wow.
This album is incredible. It is beautiful in its starkness. And, to me, it isn't like anything Glass has done before. I'm on my third listen and it gets better each time. If I were to compare it to any work, it would be Bach's Unaccompanied Cello Suites (perhaps no surprise there but a huge compliment). Do yourself a favor and get this recording.
