A fresh set of eyes from Sarver
The Advocate interviewed Newark's new police chief, Steven Sarver about his priorities. His answers are refreshingly direct:
"We are going to lock people up, and we are going to lower the crime rate in Newark."

"There are no ifs, ands or buts that crime has increased from 2005 to 2006," he said. "Auto thefts, for instance, have nearly doubled. That is an issue in the community, but that is also an issue in the department. Why are that many cars being stolen?"
