Speaking of something out of nothing
Bottom line: If Newark Council were "non-partisan," the members would still be Republicans and Democrats. Don't the voters have a right to know? The only entity that would benefit from non-partisan Council races would be the Council President. A non-partisan Council would turn the Council President position into a second mayor. It would also deprive voters of a piece of information that they should have when voting for Newark Council members.
Why does Marc Guthrie try to hide that? Because he is now, always has been and always will be about power. Marmie had it right in this editorial. The other unstated truth is that the most partisan person sitting on Council today is Marc Guthrie. Ask members of council, members of the administration, Democrats and Republicans alike. And I don't have a problem with partisans; I have a problem with partisans who claim that they are non-partisan.
